KISSING POPE
This morning Benetton pulled back ‘Pope kissing Imam’ image from their Unhate-campaign. The campaign shows political and religious leaders kissing their perceived enemies. The Vatican isn’t very pleased with the image and threatened with legal action. They considered it an unacceptable provocation. ”The White House has a longstanding policy disapproving of the use of the president’s name and likeness for commercial purposes” was the reaction of the White House on the image of Obama kissing Chavez.
Personally I think it is well retouched and I really appreciate the wittiness of the images. And let’s be honest, we can all use some extra humour in these times. But on the other hand, does it serve it’s original purpose? Is there less ‘hate’ in the world because of it? Benetton surely got far more publicity than it could have hoped for.
